OK, THE FUN IS OVER…TIME TO STOP DUNKING!!!!!

As a former basketball player, I understand the importance of rim shaking “in your face” dunk!!!  Some of the greatest players of all time are known for their dunking prowess…..Jordan seemingly jumping out of the gym, Vince Carter, who they said could take a quarter off of the top of the backboard, and leave change, Shaq and his iconic rim rockers, Darrell Griffith, Dr. Dunkenstein, with his massive throw downs and of course Sir Charles Barkley and his dunks at the 1992 Olympics that reestablished the USA as a world superpower, he said both in basketball and militarily…(video worth looking up).

Now, at my best, I once touched the rim during a game so I can only image the thrill of completing a dunk, although I have lowered by rim in my driveway for dunking competitions.  I get it!!!  A great dunk is like a walk off home in the 9th inning, a 63 yard field goal, a winning penalty kick, a perfectly struck golf shot…..it just FEELS SO GOOD!!!

By the way, the rims were recently measured for height and they are currently set at 9′ 8″ instead of the required 10′.  They will be adjusted this week.

So here is the problem an it is very simple:

  • Dunking is against the rules of the league.
  • Dunking can be dangerous to both the dunker and the dunkee
  • Dunking can damage the rims an backboards.  If our goals are damaged it could cost us games or the season.
  • Dunking is expensive….if you damage the backboard or rim, you pay for it.
  • DUNKING IS NO LONGER OK IN FREEDOM BASKETBALL SENIOR BOYS!!!!!  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

There are consequences to dunking. ANY PLAYER who is given a technical foul for dunking or attempting to dunk, whether during a game or warmups, will suffer an immediate ejection from the game they are playing in as well as the next game.

Thanks for your help on this important matter.
