GAMES ARE A GO!!!!! NOW IT GETS REAL….AND OTHER STUFF

Tonight’s Elite 8 goes off as planned!!!

All right, better late than never….besides its a snow day and you have nothing better to do than read this mess….

We start the evening with a rematch of a January 21st game where Brown beat Frey easily by 16 points.  Frey has had some problems scoring points on occasion and the Brown defense is stout.  Frey can only pull off the upset by holding Brown under 50 and getting an above average performance from their seniors.  I pick Brown by a dozen.

This is a rematch of a recent 51-43 Thomas win on February 1st.  In that game, Thomas came back from a 5 point 4th quarter deficit scoring 23 points in a game where the score does not indicate the true nature of the game.  Haines learned from that collapse and now we get a “do over”!!!!  This game could decide the eventual champ.  I don’t want to pick a winner here but have to go with Haines righting the wrong of two weeks ago 46-43.  This one is going to be great.

Now here is another good one.  Also on February 1st, Kimmett entered the 4th quarter with a 35-29 lead and a real chance to pull off a mini upset…..but…..and this is a BIG BUT!!!  Hillman had other ideas in forcing an overtime and winning 57-49, outscoring Kimmett 28-14 in the final 11 minutes.  Never mind that these two coaches have met 18 other times over the years and know each other very well.  Never mind that Coach Kimmett has announced his retirement from FABL after 27 years of coaching at the end of this season and appears to be the sentimental favorite.  Never mind that Kimmett has the best one/two punch in the league.  Never mind that Hillman will press you until you are flat as a pancake.  Never mind all of that.  This game represents everything we stand for as a league…good competition, good coaching, good crowds…and the roar of the crowd…this is why we play and you better be there to enjoy it.  In my perfect world this is a tie but….THERE ARE NO TIES IN BASKETBALL…..Sooooooo….justice revail and Kimmett doesn’t die because they take too many 3 pointers.  Pick Coach K to win 49-47.

Yikes….sorry about all the bluster but I had just watched that Harrison Ford Super Bowl ad and got carried away.  (It’s rec basketball for goodness sake).  So the question is which Davidson and which Rexrode team will show up for our night cap and punch their ticket to the Final 4.  These two teams have not faced off this season so when it comes to history, I got nothing!!!  Rexrode can score in bunches but twice this season has gone stone cold.  Davidson backs into the playoffs losing their final three games then flat out beats down J Wolfe by 26 in the first round of the playoffs to advance.  I ran it all through AI and found out that Davidson can win if Jackson Ricks has a great inside game on both ends of the floor….the dude is freakin’ big…and Venable matches his best game of the season….odds on the upset are 13-1.  If Remines and Bauer keep their cool and play their brand of basketball, the pink team should return to the Final 4.  Pick Rexrode 49-37…..( I also found out from AI that:
